Great Strategy to Repair Your Credit Report
The current economy has lent some hard times on millions of Americans just like you. People have lost their jobs and their homes and have fallen behind in their bills. However, financial ruin does not have to be your future. There are ways to help turn your financial life around and get back on track. All it takes is some dedication and commitment to the idea that you are responsible for the debt you have accrued; now you have to face the facts and make it right.
It’s never pleasant to receive calls from creditors wondering if their payment is in the mail. It’s even less pleasant to have your car repossessed or your house foreclosed upon.
Therefore, the first step to taking charge of your financial future is to repair your credit report. You must get in touch with the three major credit bureaus, Transunion, Experian and Equifax and order a copy of your credit report. After all, you cannot begin to repair your credit report until you know what information it contains. You are entitled to order this report from each of the three credit bureaus once a year and it is important that you do this even after you have repaired your credit report so you can stay on top of any issues that might arise.
Next, after you have ordered your credit report, take some time and review the information. Figure out what is accurate and what is not and highlight the information that needs to be followed up on.
Find out the process that is to be taken with each of the credit bureaus for disputing incorrect information and reference sample letters that others have written to make sure you can accurately get your message across to repair your credit report.
As far as the accurate information goes, it is important that you touch base with any and all creditors that you currently owe money to, are in default or experiencing a charge off with, or accounts that have fallen into the hands of a collection agency. Contact these companies and tell them that you are trying to repair your credit report and that you would like to arrange a payment plan or enroll in a program to help manage your debt. You will find that companies are very willing to work with you when you reach out to them. They want to reduce your debt just as much as you do, after all.
When you implement these principles you will begin to repair your credit report. You must be cautioned that it will not happen overnight, but you will begin to see progress after you have made several months of consistent payments and have begun to lower the amount of your overall debt.
Remember, repairing your credit report is a gradual process and one that requires commitment and dedication. You will experience a huge reward when you no longer have to be scared to answer the phone and have extra money to have fun with, instead of paying late fees and high interest charges.
